AI-Assisted Medication Systems

February 23, 2018

Background

In healthcare, one of the consistent challenges of physician to patient care is the proper administration of medications. Specifically in the mental health and elderly care space, this challenge is always persistent when the patient is able to care for themselves, but not always under constant supervision.

Context of Challenge

Through standalone or a blend of software, devices, artificial intelligence and chat bots, we're seeking ways to correct this problem. We're considering systems that provide not only reminders to the patient, but also a real-time feedback to ensure that the patient has received their medications as needed.

Medication nonadherence—when patients don’t take their medications as prescribed—is unfortunately fairly common, especially among patients with chronic disease. Data show about one-quarter of new prescriptions are never filled, and patients do not take their medications about 50 percent of the time.

Most nonadherence is intentional—patients make a rational decision not to take their medicine based on their knowledge, experience and beliefs.

Why Apply

We aim to build a long-term partnership with a startup that can provide an innovative solution into this challenge. Additional points will be given to startups that are already in the healthcare space, but technological solutions that are retrofitted in order to alleviate this need will also be considered.
